My vista clearing recommendations however use clearly defined
vegetation management techniques that specifically address the needs and
challenges of each vista and incorporate the use of selective herbicide
and allelopathic plants to maintain the clearing. No matter which
vegetation management technique is selected, special attention must be
given to the size and treatment of the clearing, and an effort should be made to mimic natural openings that result from tree falls or other natural processes. This means that the vegetation management should gradually diminish in intensity as the clearing moves outwards from the overlook to mimic the appearance of a naturally occurring clearing boundary.
By encouraging low growing vegetation and applying herbicide
selectively to inhibit the regrowth, vistas should remain open with
minimal clearing every 7 years. It is very evident from initial
research that not all vistas face the same issues; some vistas are
impacted by challenges with topography and fast growing vegetation,
while others are confronted with endangered or invasive species
