Two weeks ago I went out and took some pictures of the Newfound Gap vistas to show how the view disappears as soon as the leaves start to come back in. Here are the current view from Campbell Overlook:
| View from the northern Campbell Overlook - You can see the view is not as obscured by vegetation as the official Campbell Overlook parking area |
| View of Balsam Point from the interpretive sign at the official Campbell Overlook parking area. You can see how the leaves are already obscuring the view. |
| Campbell Overlook is one of the most popular overlooks within the Park. The best time of day to take pictures seems to be from the afternoon until sunset. After the sun rises over Balsam Point, the view looks washed out because of the haze as you can see below. |
| View of Balsam point from the back right corner of the sidewalk along the overlook. From this point you can see the view alright, but the whole point of having an interpretive sign is to understand what you are seeing while you're viewing it. |
| View of the ridge line from the top right corner of the parking area, just past the sidewalk. |
| View toward the ridge line and the valley below the overlook, which is completely blocked by the encroaching vegetation. |
